At ICT Billet, our greatest achievements aren’t measured in trophies or milestones—they’re reflected in the stories of the remarkable individuals who bring their passion to the track, the shop, and beyond. These are the racers, mechanics, and dreamers who push boundaries and turn obstacles into victories. This month, we’re thrilled to spotlight one of those inspiring figures: Cody Hoffman, the 2024 Holley LS Fest champion of the ICT Billet LSSS drag racing competition. Cody’s journey from a car-loving kid in Oklahoma to a celebrated racer embodies grit, innovation, and the power of community—a story we’re honored to share.
ICT Billet Spotlight : Cody Hoffman
Cody Hoffman’s journey into the thrilling world of drag racing trucks is a testament to family influence, passion, and determination. Raised in Moore, Oklahoma, Cody grew up surrounded by the rich culture of classic cars, thanks to his grandfather, a master craftsman who restored Model Ts and other vintage vehicles to their showroom glory. This exposure planted a seed in young Cody, fostering a love for cars that would eventually fuel his pursuit of speed and competition.
A Grandfather’s Legacy
Cody fondly recalls watching his grandfather transform rusty, worn-out automobiles into pristine masterpieces. “It wasn’t about racing back then,” Cody shared, “but seeing him work on those cars taught me to appreciate the process, the craftsmanship.” This admiration was later complemented by his father, an electrician with a love for cars, who, despite frustrations over drum brakes or basic fixes, showed Cody the value of perseverance and problem-solving.
This family foundation instilled in Cody a hands-on approach and an understanding that passion and hard work go hand in hand—a lesson that would prove essential as he entered the world of competitive drag racing.
From Driveways to Dragways
Cody’s high school days were marked by his first vehicle, an ’88 long-bed Chevy. “It was my first experiment,” he laughed, reminiscing about punching holes in the exhaust to make it louder and sneaking out to do burnouts. These early experiences sparked a desire for speed and customization that only grew stronger as he entered adulthood.
In his 20s, with limited resources, Cody began modifying vehicles for fun. His first serious foray into drag racing came with a 2007 Chevy, cammed and fitted with nitrous. “It wasn’t professional racing,” Cody admitted, “but it was addictive.” Over time, he refined his craft, upgraded his vehicles, and gravitated toward the world of small-tire racing, where the competition is raw and exhilarating.
The Evolution of a Racer
Unlike many racers who start as kids in junior dragsters, Cody’s journey began later, but he quickly caught up. Inspired by local legends from shows like Street Outlaws and YouTube icons, Cody immersed himself in the culture. He credits figures like Joey Heichel and the racing community for fueling his aspirations. “I learned a lot by watching and talking to other racers,” Cody said, emphasizing how approachable and supportive many of them were.
This camaraderie is a cornerstone of Cody’s career. Despite fierce competition, he values the friendships he’s built on and off the track. “At the end of the day, there’s only one winner, but the relationships we build make it all worth it,” he reflected.
Balancing Business and Passion
Today, Cody juggles his racing career with running Hoffman Auto Sales, a small car dealership where he repairs and resells vehicles. “I’ve always been hands-on, so keeping everything in-house is how I maintain quality,” he explained. This business not only fuels his love for cars but also funds his racing ventures.
Though not a full-time professional racer, Cody brings a level of professionalism to his team that rivals the best. His crew, led by longtime collaborator Quentin Lewis, exemplifies teamwork and dedication. “Without Quentin’s tuning expertise, the truck wouldn’t be half as competitive,” Cody said, underscoring the importance of having a strong support system.
Looking Ahead
Cody’s focus now is on continuing to push boundaries with his LS-powered truck. With upcoming races, including high-stakes street events, he’s eager to make his mark. “I’m confident in my truck and my team,” Cody stated, “but in racing, anything can happen. It’s all about respecting the sport and giving it your all.”
As Cody navigates the twists and turns of his racing career, he remains grounded by the values instilled in him by his family. Whether he’s under the hood of a car at his dealership or lining up at the start of a race, Cody embodies the spirit of resilience, passion, and community that defines the drag racing world.
Cody Hoffman’s story is a celebration of family, ambition, and the pursuit of speed. It’s proof that sometimes, the road to success isn’t a straight line—it’s a drag strip, and the journey is as rewarding as the destination.
